Introducing Curate

A look at design, style and luxury with Sarah St. Amand

I recently finished my own renovation. It was quite the experience. You see, as an interior designer, I’m used to remodelling and redesigning my clients’ homes; it was an experience to be on the other end of a renovation. I’ll share more about why and how I did my home next time.

Now that I have you, welcome to the first edition of my new newsletter, CURATE. I have so many new things on the go, and I’m excited about this one. During these very challenging times, I really wanted to give my clients, social media followers and readers some light-hearted, feel-good content to brighten your spirits and to share the things that make me so happy.

This new venture also comes at the same time as the launch of my new website. Much like my home renovation, it was time to remodel my site — my goal was to thoroughly explain our design process and inspire homeowners to contact my team so we can help you create your dream space. Between my talented team’s experience and my 22 years in the industry, you should feel completely confident that when you hire SSID to handle your project, everything will go beautifully. Please don’t hesitate to give me a shout to discuss your dreams for your abode. With everyone spending so much time in their homes, it’s really the perfect time to ensure your house is exactly the way you want it, and that it’s functional and fabulous in every way.

In the meantime, let’s take a moment to celebrate the holidays (and the end of 2020). I’m so looking forward to decorating, now that my renovation is done. I can’t wait to be celebrating and relaxing in my comfortable, happy and healthy home with my children.

From my team to you and yours, have a joyful season full of love, health and light.

I don’t know about you, but I’m so busy during the day that I never know what to make for dinner. It’s stressful! I have two kids and between everything I have on my plate during the day, I rarely know what to put on our plates at night. Enter Dinner Uncomplicated, Claire Tansey’s latest cookbook. She takes the pressure off and serves up 90 easy-to-cook recipes that aren’t just simple to shop for and easy to prep, they’re also super flavourful. There’s something for every homecook for every night of the week, including recipes that take just — wait for it — 15 minutes.

  1. Huntington 7001-A0B in Aged Old Bronze. This linear light is perfection — the metal tube-shaped milk-glass shades and aged bronze works beautifully together, creating a dramatic light. Available at: www.greatlighting.com

  2. Gossamer LED Sconce by Hubbardton Forge 207917. The Gossamer LED Sconce will bring supreme elegance to any room in your home, including the powder room. Available at: www.greatlighting.com

  3. Fitzgerald Flush Mount in Vintage Brass 44922. This vintage hammered brass frame with frosted glass is ideal for a small space, hallway and entryway. Available at: www.greatlighting.com

I can’t get enough of Hermès, and their matte lipstick is true to the brand — it’s luxe, soft and so comfortable. This elegant dark red is almost burgundy, and I think it’s the perfect hue for the holiday season. (Even if we’re at home, we can still look incredible, right?) This shade, Rouge H, also has some history: Rouge H is one of the colours of the House of Hermès. Rouge Hermès Matte Lipstick in Rouge H, $87. hermes.com/ca.
