Although our interior design studio is based in Brantford, Ontario, we work with clients throughout Southern Ontario and beyond. Our team is frequently in Toronto and the GTA for client meetings, renovations, new builds, installations, and furnishings projects. The first step is to fill out our project inquiry form to book your complimentary 15-minute Discovery Call with Sarah via Zoom. This call gives Sarah an opportunity to learn more about you, your home, and your project goals while answering any initial questions you may have. From there, we typically schedule an up to 2 hour in-home consultation with Sarah to further discuss your vision, assess the scope of work, and provide insight into budgets, timelines, and the design process best suited to your project.

Before hiring your contractor, it’s important to have a clear design plan in place — and here’s why. The design decisions made at the beginning of a renovation or new build impact every part of the project, from budgeting and layouts to lighting, materials, and functionality. Our experienced interior design team helps guide the process from the start by developing thoughtful floor plans, material selections, and a cohesive vision tailored to your lifestyle and home. Our design aesthetic is to create livable interiors that are representative of our client and how they live. We do not have one particular style, we pride ourselves on our flexibility and ability to produce the right design for every client and their individual preferences.

We are open to discussion around working with existing pieces. With that said, we are very honest about what works and what doesn’t. For example, if a piece is too large or too small in scale for the desired look of the room, we will recommend an area of your home where the piece may be better suited.

No — while many of our clients choose to purchase furnishings and décor through SSID, it is not always required. We offer both full-service interior design and flexible design support depending on the level of involvement you’re looking for. That said, the most cohesive and successful projects happen when clients trust us to fully guide the design direction and sourcing process. Every selection we make is intentional and based on years of experience, thoughtful planning, functionality, scale, and how each piece works together as a whole. With 30+ years of experience, a team of three senior designers, a dedicated project manager, and an accounts manager, we know a thing or two about creating homes that feel beautiful, functional, and well considered. We spend countless hours visiting trade shows, building vendor relationships, reviewing quality firsthand, and sourcing furnishings and materials we truly believe in — so our clients can feel confident trusting the process.

We offer many customizable options tailored to both the client and the space we are designing. This may include upholstery, drapery, bedding, and millwork details to help create a more personalized and thoughtfully designed home. Not everything needs to be custom, however. We work with a wide range of trusted trade vendors and often incorporate ready-made pieces into our designs as well. The key is selecting quality items with the right mix for your home, lifestyle, and budget. Custom does not always mean expensive — it simply allows us to create a space that feels more unique, timeless, cohesive, and selections that are tailored to your budget and your home.

We have preferred contracting teams with whom we’ve built trusted working relationships over the years, however we are also happy to collaborate with your contractor and trades. Many contractors are not accustomed to working alongside an experienced interior design team like SSID — one that provides extensive technical drawings, understands construction and building codes, and ensures the important design decisions are addressed before construction begins. That level of planning is key to a successful renovation. Our role is to help guide the overall vision of the project through detailed drawings, layouts, finish selections, and thoughtful planning — not leave design decisions to be figured out during construction. We work closely with contractors throughout the process to provide clarity, answer questions, and help ensure the project is being executed according to plan. As part of our flexible design service, we help educate our clients on the renovation process, including the right questions to ask, what documentation and licenses to look for, and how to properly review contractor estimates. Renovations can feel overwhelming, so our goal is to help make the process feel more organized, collaborative, and enjoyable from start to finish.
